Debt Relief Order

With a Debt Relief Order, you could achieve:

  • Unaffordable debts written off after a year
  • Protection against action from lenders
  • An alternative to bankruptcy for low-earners *

* This will affect your credit rating in the medium to long term which may make obtaining credit more difficult and/or expensive.

If you are unable to maintain your contractual payments for your unsecured debts, a Debt Relief Order could help by suspending your payments and writing off the debts after 12 months.

Once your Debt Relief Order (DRO) has been agreed, your lenders can’t take any further action against you nor are they allowed to pursue any pending legal action.

The Debt Relief Order (DRO) was brought to the industry as an alternative to Bankruptcy and provides a much cheaper option to people of a low income. Bankruptcy can cost up to £680 which must be paid upfront whereas a DRO carries only a small, one-off, non-refundable application fee of £90 which can be paid in instalments if necessary.

This fee can be paid in instalments if necessary.
