To qualify for a Debt Relief Order you must have a minimum of £20,000 of qualifying unsecured debt and less then £1,000 worth of personal assets. You must have lived in England or Wales in the last three years. In order to process A Debt Relief Order a one-off, non-refundable application fee of £90 is payable. If you are unable to maintain your contractual payments for your unsecured debts, a Debt Relief Order could help by suspending your payments and writing off the debts after 12 months

Once your Debt Relief Order (DRO) has been agreed, your lenders can’t take any further action against you now are they allowed to pursue any pending legal action.

The Debt Relief Order was brought into the industry as an alternative to Bankruptcy, the DRO is a much cheaper option. Bankruptcy can cost up to £680 and this is a fee that must be paid up front, as noted; a DRO is a much cheaper alternative for people on a low income – all it costs is a one-off non-refundable £90 application fee.

This fee can be paid in instalments if necessary.
